AGAPIOS, LANDOS. - Greek monk (secular name Athanasius), b. at Candia (Crete) at the end of the 16th century, d. at Venice before 8 March 1664.

He took the habit in the great lavra of St. Athanasius on Mount Athos. His life was divided between prayer and the composition of at least fifteen works: books of piety except for one, the Γεωπονικόν, a collection of agricultural prescriptions. The most famous of all is Ἀμαρτολῶν σουτηρίᾳ (The Salvation of Sinners, Venice 1641), often cited to refute the Protestants by A. Arnauld, P. Nicole, E. Renaudot, in La Perpétuité de la foi de l'Eglise catholique sur l'Eucharistie. Many works of A. and especially The Salvation of Sinners are still being reprinted among the Greeks.
