AGAPIOS, LANDOS. — A Greek monk (secular name: Athanasios), born in Candia (Crete) at the end of the 16th century, died in Venice before March 8, 1664.
He took the habit at the great Laura of St. Athanasios on Mount Athos. His life was divided between prayer and the composition of at least fifteen works: books of piety, with the exception of one, the Γεωργικόν, a collection of agricultural precepts. The most famous of all is 'Αμαρτολών σωτηρία (Salvation of Sinners, Venice 1641), often cited to refute Protestants by A. Arnauld, P. Nicole, E. Renaudot, in *La Perpétuité de la foi de l'Eglise catholique sur l'Eucharistie*. Many works by A. and especially *Salvation of Sinners* are still republished among the Greeks.
