JOSÉ AGUILAR (1652–1738). — Peruvian Jesuit, born in Lima on 7 August 1652, died in Panama on 20 February 1738. He taught philosophy and theology, served as rector of the colleges in Lima and Chuquisaca, and distinguished himself as a preacher. During his lifetime, he published several works, including three volumes of Sermons (with five additional volumes published posthumously) and a Cursus Philosophicus (3 vols., Seville 1701). His posthumous Tractatus in Primam Partem divi Thomae, in five volumes (Córdoba 1731), was edited by Fathers Giuseppe Perez de Ugarte and Juan de Escandón.
