AGUILAR, JOSÉ. — Peruvian Jesuit, born in Lima on 7 August 1652, died in Panama on 20 February 1798. He taught philosophy and theology, served as rector of the colleges of Lima and Chuquisaca, and distinguished himself as a preacher. During his lifetime he published several works, including 3 volumes of Sermones (5 further volumes published posthumously) and a Cursus Philosophicus (3 vols., Seville 1701). His Tractationes posthumae in Primam Partem divi Thomae, 5 vols., Cordoba 1731, were printed under the care of Frs. Giuseppe Perez de Ugarte and Juan de Escandón.
