ALBERS, PIETRO. — Dutch Jesuit and historian, b. at Frasselt on 13 April 1856 and d. at Maastricht on 1 April 1932. Having entered religious life in 1880, he was professor of Church history at Maastricht from 1897 to 1921.
His principal works are: History of the Restoration of the Catholic Hierarchy in the Netherlands (in Dutch, 2 vols., Nijmegen 1903); Manual of Church History (in Dutch, 2 vols., Nijmegen 1905–1908; in Latin: Enchiridion
historiae ecclesiasticae, 3 vols., there 1909; Italian translation by Fr. S. M. Berardo O.S.M., 2 vols., Turin 1910, several reprints); Life of the Most Reverend Father Gio. Filippo Roothaan, 21st Superior General of the Society of Jesus (in Dutch, 2 vols., Nijmegen 1912). He also wrote, for the centenary of the restoration of the Society, a Liber saecularis Societatis Iesu, 1814–1914 (Rome 1914, not for sale).
