AIACE. - A Galatian adventurer, initially Catholic, later Arian. Hydatius calls him *senior arrianus*, an expression variously interpreted by historians. Some consider him a priest or bishop, others a man of authority among the Arians; A. has gone down in history as the Arian apostle of the Suebi of Galicia (Spain). In 465 he succeeded in drawing King Remismund, a Catholic, into Arianism. Remismund had received military aid from Theodoric II, king of the Visigoths, to conquer the throne and his bride. The people followed the king into heresy and remained faithful to it for nearly a century.
