ADALBERONE, bishop of LAON. — Born around the middle of the 10th century, died in 1030. He was a disciple of Gerberto, the future Silvester II. On account of his learning and eloquence, he was elected bishop in 977. He then came into conflict with his former teacher, who had become his metropolitan. He engaged in politics and wrote a satirical poem (PL 141, 767–822; re-edited in the Biblioth. de la Fac. de Lettres de Paris, 13 [1901], pp. 129–84, edited by G. A. Hückel).
