ADALBERO, bishop of LAON. - Born ca. the middle of the 10th century, died in 1030. He was a pupil of Gerbert, the future Sylvester II. On account of his learning and eloquence, he was elected bishop in 977. He then had disputes with his former master, who had become his metropolitan. He took part in politics and wrote a satirical poem (PL 141, 767-822; reprinted in Biblioth. de la Fac. de Lettres de Paris, 13 [1901], pp. 129-84, ed. G. A. Hückel).
