ACQUAVIVA, GIULIO. — Cardinal, son of Giovanni Giacomo, tenth duke of Atri, brother of Cardinal Ottavio, of Orazio, bishop, and of Rodolfo, Jesuit and martyr; born in 1546, died in Rome on 21 July 1574. As a papal referendary, he was sent to Spain in 1568 to offer condolences to Philip II on the occasion of the queen’s death. He was created cardinal on 9 May 1570. A man of irreproachable life, he was greatly mourned at his death.
