ACQUAVIVA, GIULIO. — Cardinal, son of Giovanni Giacomo, tenth Duke of Atri, brother of Cardinal Ottavio, of Bishop Orazio, and of Rodolfo, a Jesuit and martyr; b. in 1546, d. in Rome on 21 July 1574. As a papal referendary, he was sent to Spain in 1568 to convey condolences to Philip II on the death of the queen. He was created cardinal on 9 May 1570. Of an upright life, he was greatly mourned at his death.
