ALBERT OF ORLAMUNDE. - A German Dominican of the 13th century, perhaps a pupil of St Albert the Great.
Modern critics (Grabmann, Gewer) claim for him the authorship of the *Philosophia pauperum*, which is a wide-ranging compendium of natural and psychological philosophy modelled on the works of St Albert the Great. It had many commentaries and remained for a long time a textbook in various German universities and schools of the Middle Ages. It is also known as the *Summa Naturalium* or *Summa philosophiae naturalis*; but it was called the *Philosophia pauperum* because, being a compendium, it was accessible even to the purses of poor students.
