BARBERIS, ALBERTO. — Neo-Scholastic philosopher of the Congregation of the Mission, born at Monferrato on 14 January 1847, died at Piacenza in the Alberoni college on 2 July 1896. He studied mathematics and natural sciences; besides the classical and modern languages, he knew Hebrew and Sanskrit, but devoted himself chiefly to Thomistic philosophy, which he taught for many years. Moderator of studies at the Alberoni college until his death, in 1880 he founded *Divus Thomas*, an authoritative journal of sacred and philosophical studies with a Thomistic orientation, which continues to this day.
