ALCIATI, TERENZIO. - Theologian and historian, b. in Rome on 15 Nov. 1570, d. there on 12 Nov. 1651. A Jesuit from 1591. On the advice of Urban VIII he began a history of the Council of Trent, to be set against that of Sarpi, gathering from the archives a precious body of material that later served Pallavicini. He was a member of the commission for the reform of the Roman Breviary. He was also one of the revisers, deputed by the General, to report on Lessius's doctrine concerning the formal cause of justification.
