ALCIATI, TERENZIO. - Theologian and historian, born in Rome on 15 Nov. 1570, died there on 12 Nov. 1651. Jesuit from 1591. On the advice of Urban VIII, he began a history of the Council of Trent to counter that of Sarpi, collecting valuable material from the archives which later served Pallavicini. He was a member of the commission for the reform of the Roman Breviary. He was also one of the revisers, appointed by the General, to report on the doctrine of Lessius concerning the formal cause of justification.
