FRIENDS OF SACRED ART. - Le disposizioni pontifice per l'arte sacra, emanate nel 1925, prevedono l'istituzione presso ogni diocesi, alle dipendenze della locale Commissione per l'arte sacra, di una «Società degli A. dell'A. S." which, branching out from the diocesan seat to the most distant parishes or churches by means of parish groups, must promote everything that tends to the embellishment, the decorum, and the cleanliness of churches. This institution is strictly hierarchical in character and in many cases is presided over by the bishop himself or by the president of the diocesan commission (v. ISTITUTI DI STUDI PER L'ARTE SACRA).
