Ancajani, Carlo

ANCAJANI, CARLO. - Papal general, b. in Spoleto on 19 July 1763, d. in Rome around the middle of the following century. In Jan. 1797 he was placed at the head of a small observation corps near Faenza, while preponderant French forces occupied Imola. He thus withstood, with unfortunate valor, the enemy onslaught at the crossing of the Senio on 2 Feb. Having resigned during the republican interlude, in 1815 he became commander of the Forte di S. Angelo and carried out important military duties.
