ANCAJANI, CARLO. – Papal general, born in Spoleto on 19 July 1763, died in Rome around the middle of the following century. In January 1797, he was placed at the head of a small observation force near Faenza, while superior French forces occupied Imola. Thus, with valour that met with misfortune, he withstood the enemy assault at the crossing of the Senio on 2 February. Having resigned during the republican interlude, in 1815 he became commander of the Forte di S. Angelo and carried out important military duties.
