ANFIONE, Saint. — Bishop of Epiphania in Cilicia, he took part in the Councils of Ancyra (314), Neocaesarea (314), and Nicaea (325). An opponent of the Arians, he is commended by St. Athanasius for the orthodoxy of his writings. Ancient historians identify him with A., who succeeded Eusebius of Nicomedia after the latter’s deposition, but this is unclear. The Roman Martyrology commemorates him on June 12.
