ANFIONE, saint. – Bishop of Epiphania in Cilicia, he took part in the Councils of Ancyra (314), Neocaesarea (314), and Nicaea (325). An opponent of the Arians, he is commended by S. Atanasio for the orthodoxy of his writings. The ancient historians identify him with A., the successor of Eusebius of Nicomedia after the latter’s deposition, but the matter is unclear. The Roman Martyrology commemorates him on 12 June.
