ANGELA della PACE. - Dominican tertiary in the secular state, born 25 Dec. 1610 at Morchiano, died at Naples on 21 Oct. 1662. From her earliest years, A. Maria Caterina practised severe penances and was granted extraordinary graces and visions; at the age of twelve she took up residence with the Benedictines of Lauro. In 1625 she received the Dominican habit in the church of S. Maria della Sanità at Naples, having Fr. Cornelio d'Avitabile as her spiritual director. After his death, she had directors from the Order of Discalced Carmelites, near whom she spent her last years.
Among various notable charisms, she was familiar with the Child Jesus, the Madonna, various saints, and angels. After bearing the wounds of the Lord for two years, she received the wound in her side on Holy Thursday of 1634. She was also an angel of charity. She was buried in the chapel of the Crucifix of the church of the Discalced Carmelites, at Naples, and the Dominican chapter of 1670 included a eulogy of her in its acts.
