AQUILINI, IGNAZIO. – Dominican of Amata, born at Ragusa in 1632, died there in the convent of Val di Noce on 7 April 1715. His studies, pursued at Bologna, prepared him for the activities of lecturer in Sacred Scripture, preacher, and ascetical writer. He was prior at Bologna and, in 1690, vicar general of the Ragusan congregation.
From his youth, tested by extremely painful physical ailments, he gave an example of rare patience and zeal for souls. He left unpublished works in Latin and Croatian on ascetical (Locutio sinceri cum Deo cordis, Bona mors, Tragoediae humanae citae), literary, and medical subjects. He published at Ancona (1688) the office of St Dominic and at Venice (1689) that of the Madonna, both in Croatian.
