ANGHERÀ, DOMENICO. — Priest and patriot, b. at Potenzano Briatico in 1803, d. at Naples in 1873. A Carbonaro and Mazzinian, he settled in Catanzaro in 1846, where he founded an “Evangelical Society,” whose watchword was Pio IX and whose cry was Religione e Libertà. Arrested after the uprising in Reggio, he subsequently became a member of the Committee of Public Safety of Catanzaro, established on 18 May 1848. An exile in Malta, he settled in Naples after the fall of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
