ANTONELLI, NICOLA MARIA. — Born at Senigaglia on 18 July 1698, died in Rome on 24 September 1767. Cardinal, historian, canonist, and orientalist. He also served as Secretary of Propaganda Fide and as consultor, member, and prefect of various congregations.
He wrote: *De Titulis quos s. Evaristus Romanis Presbyteris distribuit* (Rome 1725), to defend the parochial character of the churches of primitive Rome; and under the name of Emmanuel de Azevedo S.J., *Vetus Missale Romanum Monasticum Lateranense* (Rome 1752). The *Diatribae* published under the title *Sermones s. Patris Iacobi ep. Nisibeni* (Armenian text with Latin translation), following Gennadius of Marseilles’ erroneous attribution, were later reassigned, in their Syriac text, to Aphraates the Syrian by the Curetone.
