ANTONIO DA FUENTELAPENA

ANTONIO da FUENTELAPENA. - Spanish ascetical theologian, who entered the Capuchins of the Province of Castile in 1643, visitor and general commissary of his Order in Sicily (1678), d. in the early years of the 18th century. He is the author of noteworthy ascetical-mystical treatises (*Retrato divino*, Madrid 1685, 1688, 1701; *Escuela de la verdad*, Madrid 1700), in which he combats the theories of M. Molinos and other pseudo-mystics of the time. In the book *Ente dilucidato* (Madrid 1676) he discusses and affirms the possibility of human flight. He promoted devotion to the Eternal Father and composed the text of the office and mass for the feast which it was desired to introduce into the liturgy in his honor.
