ARLOTTO da Prato. - Franciscan theologian, born in Prato, died in Paris in 1286. He studied in Paris and, having become a "magister," taught theology at least from 1281. From 1282 to 1285 he was provincial of Tuscany, and on May 13, 1285, he was elected minister general of the Order in Milan. He soon died and was buried in the Paris convent (1286), in repute for holiness and learning.
One disputed Quaestio from him remains (dated 1281) in Cod. lat. 14726 of the National Library in Paris, which also preserves his Sermons. Many writers attribute to A. the Biblical Concordances, which begin with the preface "Cubiliet." But these are the 3rd edition of the Concordances of Hugh of Saint-Cher, prepared by Conrad of Halberstadt and often reprinted. A. seems entirely unconnected with this work; but he may have put the finishing touches to the Moral Concordances, composed by the Friars Minor and erroneously attributed to St. Anthony of Padua.
