CORRADO di HALBERSTADT. — Name of two Dominican writers on theological and historical subjects, of whom neither the year of birth nor that of death is known, and whose literary legacy contains many unsolved problems.
C., the elder, attended as definitor of the province of Saxony the General Chapter held at Florence in 1321. C., the younger (d. after 1362), was reader at the Order’s Studium in Magdeburg in 1342 and 1350, master of theology in 1345, vicar in 1350, and provincial of the Saxon province in 1351–54.
C., the younger, wrote: Glossemata super Iosue, De numero duodenario, Liber similitudinum naturalium (which agrees in many passages of the first books with Elvico’s Summa de exemplis et rerum similitudinibus, or imitates passages of Giovanni di S. Gigniano’s De similitudinibus rerum), De origine regnorum et regno Romanorum, Chronographia summorum pontificum et imperatorum Romanorum, works still unpublished. He is said to be the author of the Summa studentium, De tricia, Comment. in Iob, Sevenoies de tempore et de sanctis.
The following works are attributed sometimes to C., the elder, and sometimes to the younger: Tripartitum per abecedarium sive loci communis theologico-marales, Quadripartitum morale, Mensa philosophica (Lübeck 1476, and subsequently in 30 other editions, of great importance for the history of European culture); Concordantia biblicae V. et N. Test. (Nuremberg 1485 and frequently thereafter).
