ARPE, GIACOMO. — Augustinian, born in Levanto c. 1660, died in 1729. He entered the Order in Genoa in 1675. Upon completing his studies, he was entrusted with teaching philosophy and theology. He then governed his religious Congregation for a long time; he was also theologian to the Genoese republic and consultor of the Holy Office.
As a historian of the Order, he worked diligently to spread its memories and extol its glories. His works aimed at this: *Memorie dell'Ordine Eremitano di s. Agostino* (Bologna 1699); *Pantheon Augustinianum* (Genoa 1709); *Giornale dei santi e beati Agostiniani* (Genoa 1722); *Memorie di beati Agostiniani*. He also wrote: *Summa totius Theologiae Aegidii Columbae*: 5 vols. in-12° (Bologna-Genoa 1704). He was also a distinguished Latin poet.
