ARPE, GIACOMO. - Augustinian, b. at Levanto ca. 1660, d. in 1729. He entered the Order at Genoa in 1675. As soon as he had completed his studies, he was entrusted with the teaching of philosophy and theology. He then governed his religious Congregation for a long time; he was also theologian of the Genoese republic and consultor of the Holy Office.

He worked hard, as historian of the Order, to spread its records and to shed light on its glories. His works aim at this: Memorie dell'Ordine Eremitano di s. Agostino (Bologna 1699); Pantheon Augustinianum (Genoa 1709); Giornale dei santi e beati Agostiniani (Genoa 1722); Memorie di beati Agostiniani. He also wrote: Summa totius Theologiae Aegidii Columnae: 5 volumes in-12° (Bologna-Genoa 1704). He was also a distinguished Latin poet.
