AMMIANI, SEBASTIANO. — Augustinian, born in Fano, died on 30 July 1568. In 1547 he was a student in Rome, then went to Bologna, Pavia, and Treviso, teaching until 1557, in which year he was elected secretary general of the Order. He participated in the Council of Trent: there he received the doctoral insignia from the bishop of Aversa. A man of great erudition and varied activity, he was a prolific writer and tireless preacher. He devoted himself particularly to refuting the errors of the innovators. Among his many historical, theological, and polemical works, the Conclusiones Catholicae against the Lutherans deserve mention.
