AGOSTINO da ASCOLI. — Augustinian. He was among the first Doctors of his Order after the union, and carried out his scholarly activity toward the end of the thirteenth century. A master of theology and regent of the Studium of Padua, he was appointed by Boniface VIII as apostolic confessor for the whole world. He left commentaries on Aristotle’s books of Physics and on the Master of the Sentences; lectures on Sacred Scripture and expositions of the Gospels for the entire year.
