ALBERTO da Padova, called Novello. — Augustinian theologian, d. in 1494. By birth and education a Jew, he converted and embraced the religious life, thereafter devoting himself especially to refuting Jewish errors. To draw his former coreligionists to Christianity, he traveled throughout Italy. In 1482, already a doctor of theology, he was superior of the convent in Padua; there he remained until his death. Of his works, we know a treatise De Messiae adventi, against Jewish obstinacy, and another of a scholastic character.
