ALBERTO da PADOVA, called NOVELLO. — An Augustinian theologian, died in 1494. Jewish by birth and upbringing, he converted and embraced religious life, thereafter devoting himself especially to refuting Jewish errors. In order to bring his former fellow believers to Christianity, he travelled throughout Italy. In 1482, already a doctor of theology, he became superior of the convent of Padua; he had to remain there until his death. Of his works, we know of a treatise De Messiae adventu, against Jewish obstinacy, and another of a scholastic nature.
