AUDOEN (OUEN), Saint. - Born in 610 in the vicinity of Soissons, he was blessed as a child by St. Columbanus; while still young - he then bore the name Dadone - he was sent to the court of Chlothar II, where he formed a friendship with St. Eligius. He helped his brother Ado in founding the monastery of Jouarre near Meaux, and himself founded that of Revais (634). Bishop of Rouen from 641, he took part in the Second Council of Chalon-sur-Saône (650), promoted monasticism, founding monasteries among which the one at Fontenelle is notable, and, by reason of the great influence he enjoyed at the court of the Frankish kings, took part in political affairs. He died on 24 August 684 at Clichy near Paris, while returning from a diplomatic mission to Cologne.
