BAINI, GIUSEPPE. — Musician, born in Rome on 21 Oct. 1775, died there on 21 May 1844. Initially a pupil of his uncle Lorenzo, then of G. Jannaconi, he became in 1802 a singer in the papal chapel, in 1818 chamberlain of the chapel, and later an abbot. Among his works is a Miserere for 10 voices, which from 1821 was included in the Holy Week singing of the Sistine Chapel. His name is associated with the Memorie storico-critiche della vita e delle opere di Pier Luigi da Palestrina (1828), a biography that initiated the Palestrina studies of the past century. He also wrote a Saggio sopra l'identità de' ritmi musicale e poetico (1820).
