BAINI, GIUSEPPE. - Musician, b. in Rome on 21 Oct. 1775, d. there on 21 May 1844. First a pupil of his uncle Lorenzo, then of G. Jannaconi, he became in 1802 a singer of the papal chapel, in 1818 chamberlain of the chapel, then abbot. Author, among other things, of a Miserere for 10 voices that from 1821 was included in the chants of Holy Week of the Sistine Chapel. His name is linked to the Memorie storico-critiche della vita e delle opere di Pier Luigi da Palestrina (1828), a biography that began the Palestrina studies of the last century. He also wrote a Saggio sopra l'identità de' ritmi musicale e poetico (1820).
