BAINI, GIUSEPPE. – Musician, born in Rome on 21 October 1775, died there on 21 May 1844. At first a pupil of his uncle Lorenzo, and later of G. Jannaconi, he became a singer in the papal chapel in 1802, chamberlain of the chapel in 1818, and subsequently an abbot. Among other works, he composed a Miserere for ten voices, which from 1821 was included among the chants of Holy Week in the Sistine Chapel. His name is associated with the Memorie storico-critiche della vita e delle opere di Pier Luigi da Palestrina (1828), a biography that initiated nineteenth-century Palestrina studies. He also wrote a Saggio sopra l'identità de' ritmi musicale e poetico (1820).
