BALANGERO, GIOVANNI BATTISTA. Missionary and writer. Born in Envie (Saluzzo) on 12 June 1849, he entered the Brignole-Sale college in Genoa in 1868, departed for Australia in 1872, and from there, in 1884, moved to Ceylon. Returning in 1895, he became director of the National Boarding School in Turin; then he went to the United States, to Cincinnati, where he died on 7 May 1919. He wrote his biographical memoirs, which still present a certain interest today: Australia and Ceylon. Studies and recollections of thirteen years of mission (1897).
