BALDASSARRI, Domenico Antonio. – Franciscan theologian, born in Osimo in 1713, died in Montegiorgio on 8 January 1791. His theological work primarily concerns questions of grace, in which he polemicized with Tamburini and other theologians of his time, defending—following St. Augustine—the absolute gratuity of grace along with human freedom. A keen and prolific theologian, he wrote: *De restituenda divinae Gratiae idea*, 26 letters, 2 vols., Venice 1777 ff.; *Dissertatio de Gratia*...; and a large unpublished work in 4 books: *S. Aurelii Augustini... de Auxiliis divinae gratiae*... He returned to the subject again in ascetical writings.
Also noteworthy is his *Epistola apologetica pro Patribus Sextae Synodi* (680–81) against Bishop of Feltre G.B. Baroli (Foligno 1756), as well as four biblical dissertations: *De omnium hominum primo*, *De virtute arboris vitae*, *De antidiluvianorum hominum cibo*, *De universalitate diluvii* (translated into Italian by D. P. Rotti, Venice 1758).
