BELLATI, BARTOLOMEO. - Scotist theologian and great preacher of the Conventuals, born at Feltre, of noble family, in the early 1400s, died at Rome in 1479. In 1472, on the occasion of the General Chapter of the Order at Ferrara, in the presence of Ercole I, he held a celebrated disputa pro Immaculata against V. Bandelli and other opponents. He was an indefatigable promoter, through preaching and writings, of the doctrine and feast of the Immaculate Conception; he directed the Bologna studium in 1478.
He wrote: Opusculum in II Sent. Scoti (Venice, 1481); Liber recollectarius de ver. Conceptionis B. M. (Bologna, 1481, pp. 100-109); he republished, corrected, the Summa Astesana (Venice, 1478), and Book I of Scoto’s Lectura Parisiensis (Bologna, 1478).
