BARONE, VERONICA. – Mystic, born at Vizzini (Catania) on 16 December 1856, where she died in a reputation for holiness on 4 January 1878.
At Baptism she was given the name Febronia. In childhood she was miraculously cured of a malignant fever, following an apparition of s. Veronica Giuliani.
Her brief existence was characterized by numerous ecstasies accompanied by charisms. On 9 July 1871 she enrolled in the Secular Third Order of s. Francesco, taking the name Veronica and thereafter living as a religious within her home, according to the custom of Sicily. Exceedingly painful temptations, illnesses, and sufferings corresponded to the thirst for suffering that impelled her to inflict harsh penances upon herself.
