BÄUMER, SUITBERT. – Benedictine monk of the Abbey of Beuron and learned liturgist, born at Leuchtenberg (Rhineland) on 28 March 1845, died at Freiburg im Br. on 12 August 1894; ordained a priest in 1869. The “Kulturkampf” forced him to withdraw to the Abbey of Maredsous, where he remained until 1890. He prepared several editions of liturgical books for the publisher Desclée and left various studies of great value on the author of the Micrologus (1889), the Stovec Missal (1892), the Sacramentarium gelasianum (1893), etc. But his principal work is the monumental Geschichte des Breviers (Freiburg im Br. 1895), a work rich in erudition and doctrine.
