BAUMER, SUITBERT. - Benedictine monk of Beuron Abbey and learned liturgist, b. at Leuchtenberg (Rhineland) on 28 March 1845, d. at Freiburg in Br. on 12 Aug. 1894, ordained priest in 1869. The *Kulturkampf* forced him to take refuge at Maredsous Abbey, where he remained until 1890. He prepared several editions of liturgical books for the publisher Desclée and left various valuable studies on the author of the *Micrologus* (1889), on the Stowe Missal (1892), on the Gelasian Sacramentary (1893), etc. But his principal work is the monumental *Geschichte des Breviers* (Freiburg in Br. 1895), a work rich in erudition and learning.
