BAUDOUIN, LOUIS-MARIE, VENERABILE

BAUDOUIN, Louis-Marie, Venerable. - Priest, b. at Montaigu on 2 Aug. 1765, d. at Chavagnes on 12 Feb. 1835. A vicar at Luçon, he was imprisoned by the revolutionaries, but managed to take refuge in Spain. Having returned to France, he was appointed parish priest at Jonchère in 1800, where he founded the Congregation of the Sons of Mary Immaculate (v.). After his transfer to Chavagnes, he met with Sister St. Benedict and in 1801 gave rise to the institute of the Ursulines of Jesus (v.). In 1812 he was appointed rector of the major seminary and vicar general at La Rochelle, then at Luçon. In 1825 he retired to Chavagnes, where he wrote several works of an ascetic character. His cause for beatification was introduced on 7 Sept. 1871.
