BEDETTI, GIUSEPPE, Servant of God. — Priest, born in Bologna on 23 July 1799, died there on 4 January 1889. Since, owing to his health, he had been unable as a young man to remain in the Jesuit novitiate, he became the helper of those suffering and in need of charity, giving everything to the poor. He directed congregations of artisans, particularly porters and shoemakers, and from 1838 to 1861 established a type of “evening school” that was soon imitated. He was archpriest of the cathedral and a Servite tertiary. In 1923 the informative process was initiated.
