BEDETTI, GIUSEPPE, Servant of God. — Priest, born in Bologna on 23 July 1799, died there on 4 January 1889. Unable, as a young man, due to poor health, to remain in the Jesuit novitiate, he became a helper of the suffering and needy, giving everything to the poor. He directed congregations of artisans, particularly porters and shoemakers, and from 1838 to 1861 he established a type of "night school" which was soon imitated. He was archpriest of the cathedral and a Servite tertiary. In 1923 the informative process was begun.
