BENGY DE BONNAULT D'HOUET, MARIE-MADELEINE DE. - Foundress of the Faithful Companions of Jesus (v.), b. at Châteauroux (Indre) on 21 Sept. 1781, d. at Paris on 5 Apr. 1858. Married to Viscount de Bonnault, she was left a widow with a small child after only ten months. She devoted herself to works of charity, renouncing a second marriage. In 1817 she felt the impulse to found a religious institute; and to this, after severe trials, her spiritual directors urged her. She labored and traveled much to extend her Congregation. Her cause for beatification and canonization was introduced on 13 Dec. 1916.
