BELLACCI, Tommaso da Florence, Blessed. - Franciscan of the Observant Friars Minor, b. in Florence in 1370, d. at Rieti on 31 Oct. 1447. Having abandoned the dissipations of his youth and become a friar, he won the admiration of all by his holy life. In 1439 he was part of the mission sent by Pope Eugene IV to Ethiopia. He returned to Italy in 1444 after having suffered, during the expedition, slavery and persecutions. His cult was approved by Clement XIV on 17 Aug. 1771. Feast 31 Oct. v. ALBERTO da SARTIANO.
