BENTIVENGHI, BENTIVENGA. - Franciscan, cardinal, born in Todi of a noble family, died on 25 March 1289. According to the writers of Todi he would be the brother of Cardinal Matteo d'Acquasparta. He was master of theology and bishop of Todi (1276-78). Nicholas III created him cardinal bishop of Albano in 1278 and appointed him major penitentiary.
There still exists in Cod. 336 of Assisi the register of his acts in the said office, studied and published by C. Eubel in Archiv für katholisches Kirchenrecht, 64 (1890), pp. 3-69; L. Leonj, Inventario dei codici della Comunale di Todi (Todi 1878, pp. 78-85), published his testament. It seems he died in Todi and was buried in S. Fortunato. To Todi he bequeathed his rich library of codices, today in the Comunale.
