BENTIVENGHI, BENTIVENGA. - Franciscan, cardinal, born in Todi from a noble family, died on 25 March 1208. According to Todi writers, he would be the brother of Cardinal Matteo d'Acquasparta. He was a master of theology and bishop of Todi (1276–78). Nicholas III created him cardinal bishop of Albano in 1278 and appointed him Major Penitentiary.
The register of his acts in that office still exists in Codex 336 of Assisi, studied and published by C. Eubel in *Archiv für katholisches Kirchenrecht*, 64 (1890), pp. 3–69. L. Leonj, *Inventario dei codici della Comunale di Todi* (Todi 1878, pp. 78–85), published his will. He seems to have died in Todi and to have been buried in S. Fortunato. To Todi he bequeathed his rich library of codices, now in the Comunale.
