BENTIVENGHI, BENTIVENGA. - Franciscan, cardinal, born at Todi of a noble family, died on 25 March 1289. According to the writers of Todi, he was the brother of Card. Matteo d'Acquasparta. He was master of theology and bishop of Todi (1276–78). Niccolò III created him cardinal bishop of Albano in 1278 and appointed him major penitentiary.
The register of his acts in that office still survives in Cod. 336 of Assisi; it was studied and published by C. Eubel in Archiv für katholisches Kirchenrecht, 64 (1890), pp. 3–69. L. Leonj, Inventario dei codici della Comunale di Todi (Todi 1878, pp. 78–85), published his will. He apparently died at Todi and was buried in S. Fortunato. To Todi he bequeathed his rich library of manuscripts, now in the municipal library.
