BERNARD di LA TREILLE (de Trilia). — Dominican philosopher and theologian of the 13th century. Born in Nîmes, he taught theology in Paris (1284–88), and died at Avignon in 1292. He was among the first followers of s. Tommaso, whose thought he discusses extensively, among other things, concerning the question of the real distinction between essence and existence, against the opinion of Enrico di Gand.
He wrote Quodlibeta (1284–87), which remained unfinished. The following works are also attributed to him: Quaestiones de spiritualibus creaturis; De potentia Dei; De anima conjuncta; De anima separata.
