BERNARD DI LA TREILLE (DE TRILIA)

BERNARD of La Treille (de Trilia). - Dominican philosopher and theologian of the 13th century. Born in Nîmes, he taught theology in Paris (1284-88) and died in Avignon in 1292. He was among the first followers of St. Thomas Aquinas, with whom he extensively engaged, particularly on the question of the real distinction between essence and existence, opposing the opinion of Henry of Ghent.

He wrote Quodlibeta (1284-87), which remained unfinished. He is also attributed with: Quaestiones de spiritualibus creaturis; De potentia Dei; De anima coniuncta; De anima separata.
