Brouwer, Christoph

BROWER (BROUWER), CHRISTOPH. - Jesuit, b. in 1559 at Arnhem (Gheldria, Holland), d. at Trier in 1617. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1580 and was rector at Fulda and Trier. He published studies in ecclesiastical history, such as Fuldensium antiquitatum libri III (Antwerp, 1612), and especially the great work of his entire life, on the annals of the ecclesiastical province of Trier, printed at Cologne in 1626 and republished in 1670, edited and continued by his confrère Giacomo Masen: Antiquitatum et Annalium Trevirensium libri XXV (2 vols., Liège, 1670). Another of his works, Metropolis Ecclesiae Trevericae, likewise revised by Masen, was published in 1855-56 by Cristiano von Stromberg.
