CANZIO, Canziano, and Canzianilla, Saints. - Aquileian martyrs of the end of the 3rd century or the beginning of the next, venerated on 31 May; there is a mention of their martyrdom in a sermon attributed to St. Ambrose or to St. Maximus of Turin; but the acts concerning them have nothing authentic apart from that mention. Venantius Fortunatus, in the 6th century, records their cult in Aquileia: «Cantianos Domini nimium veneraris amicos» (Vita s. Martini, IV, v. 659); their relics too were widely scattered during the Middle Ages, certainly thanks to the spread in the West of their liturgical commemoration.
