CANZIO, CANZIANO and CANZIANILLA, saints. — Aquileian martyrs of the end of the 3rd century or the beginning of the following century, venerated on 31 May; there is a mention of their martyrdom in a sermon attributed to St. Ambrose or St. Massimo of Turin; but the acts concerning them contain nothing authentic apart from that mention. Venanzio Fortunato made note of their cult in Aquileia in the 6th century: «Cantianos Domini nimium veneraris amicos» (Vita s. Martini, IV, V. 659); their relics too were widely dispersed during the Middle Ages, certainly owing to the spread of their liturgical commemoration in the West.
