CANZIO, CANZIANO E CANZIANILLA, SANTI

CANZIUS, CANZIANUS, and CANZIANILLA, saints. – Martyrs of Aquileia at the end of the 3rd century or the beginning of the following one, venerated on May 31; a mention of their martyrdom is found in a sermon attributed to Ambrose or St. Maximus of Turin; but the acts concerning them contain nothing authentic apart from that mention. Venantius Fortunatus, in the 6th century, recalls their cult in Aquileia: “Cantianos Domini nimium veneraris amicos” (Vita s. Martini, IV, V. 659); their relics were also widely dispersed during the Middle Ages, certainly owing to the spread in the West of their liturgical commemoration.
