FRANCESCO CAVALLINI. — Sculptor, born according to some at Carrara, according to others in the Canton of Ticino, active in Rome in the second half of the 17th century; in 1684 he was elected an academician of S. Luca.
He was most probably a pupil of Raggi, but distinguished himself from him by a greater vigour in his modelling. His principal works include two characteristic monuments to the Bolognetti family in the church of Gesù e Maria, two reliefs with SS. Mary Magdalen and Catherine in S. Maria dell'Umiltà, the two busts of the Cibo family in S. Maria del Popolo, and the travertine statues on the façade of S. Marcello al Corso; he was also a skilled stucco-worker.
