CAVALLINI, FRANCESCO. – Sculptor, born, according to some, in Carrara, according to others in the Canton of Ticino, active in Rome in the second half of the 17th century; in 1684 he was elected a member of the Academy of S. Luca.
He was in all probability a pupil of Raggi, but differs from him in the greater nervousness of his modelling. His principal works are two characteristic Bolognetti monuments in the church of Gesù e Maria, two reliefs depicting Sts. Magdalene and Catherine in S. Maria dell’Umiltà, the two Cibo busts in S. Maria del Popolo, and the travertine statues on the façade of S. Marcello al Corso; he was also a skilled stuccoist.
