CAVAZZONI. - Two figures of this family are remembered: MARCO ANTONIO, also called Antonio da Bologna, was a pupil and singer in the celebrated singing school that A. Willaert kept at St. Mark's in Venice, much esteemed by the master, who mentions him in his will. GIROLAMO (b. around 1500, d. in 1560), called d'Urbino, son of the preceding and with him in the service of Cardinal Bembo, whose godson he was. He is one of the most interesting figures among organist-composers of the 16th century, distinguished also in teaching as organ master of the illustrious Brescian organ builder Costanzo Antegnati.

He is the author of a valuable collection of organ pieces entitled Intavolatura d'organo, cioè Ricercari, Canzoni, Hinn, Magnificat (2 vols., Venice 1542 and 1543), a work from which various pieces have been extracted for publication in modern collections: by L. Torchi in vol. III of his Arte musicale in Italia (Milan 1897) and by G. Benvenuti in the Classici della musica italiana of the Milan Institute, fascs. 23-24.
