CIAMPI, LECRENZIO VINCENZO. — Musician from Piacenza, born in 1719, he studied in Piacenza with the maestro di cappella Rondini, went to Naples (perhaps a pupil of Durante and S. Leo), then to Palermo and, in 1748, to London, to Venice, where he became choirmaster at the conservatory of the Pio ospedale degli incurabili (a position in which Baldassarre Galuppi succeeded him in 1726), in 1752 to Paris, and once again to London and Venice in 1762. The date and place of his death are unknown.
He wrote various oratorios: Bethulia liberata (1747), Christus a Matre quaesitus et in Calvario inventus (1745), Vexillum fidei (1759), Virgines prudentes et fatuae (1760), Modula Mira Sacra (1757), masses, Te Deum, Salve Regina, as well as pieces of instrumental music, including 6 concertos for organ found in the libraries of Berlin, Dresden, Vienna, and London.
