CIAMPI, SEBASTIANO

CIAMPI, SEBASTIANO. - Priest, b. at Pistoia on 31 Oct. 1769, d. at Firenze on 14 Dec. 1847. Professor of ancient literatures at the University of Firenze, then at that of Varsavia. His stay in Poland led him to the history of Polish culture and of its relations with Italy: a subject on which he published many writings, of particular interest for the information they provide concerning Italian artists and scholars who lived in Poland.

Noteworthy for ecclesiastical history is his Catalogo di manoscritti e stampati relativi alla storia politica militare ecclesiastica e letteraria del regno di Polonia raccolti in Italia negli anni 1823, 1824, e 1825 (Firenze 1831).
