CLÉMENT DE BOISSY, ATRANASE-ALEXANDRE. – French legal scholar, brother of the bishop of Versailles Agostino, councillor of the Chambre des Comptes of Paris, born at Creteil in 1716, died at St-Palaye in 1793.
He wrote on theological and ascetical subjects. In addition to the curious apologetic work L'Auteur de la nature (3 vols., Paris 1782), which begins with physiological notions and goes on to eschatological hypotheses, he published: Abrégé et concorde des livres de la Sagesse (there 1767), Abrégé de l'Ancien et du Nouveau Testament (2 vols., there 1788, under the pseudonym « Fontenay »), Manuel de Saintes Ecritures (3 vols., there 1788-89). He also wrote, under the aforementioned pseudonym, De la grâce de Dieu et de la prédestination (there 1787) and Le mépris des choses humaines (there 1791).
