Chapada

CHAPADA. - Nullius prelature of St. Anne, suffragan of Cuyabá in the State of Mato Grosso in Brazil. It was created on 13 July 1940 with the bull Quo Christi fidelium.

Besides the mother church of St. Anne, there are 3 other chapels. Over an area of about 140,000 sq km, the population is about 40,000 inhabitants, made up of a settled population of Indians and temporary immigrants from every State of Brazil, given the rich diamond-bearing region.

The prelature is entrusted to the Franciscan fathers. The Franciscan sisters of Ausobie direct the St. Joseph boarding school, which also includes a free primary school.
