ECCLESIASTICAL COMPUTUS - Incipit of the De temporum ratione, by St. Bede the Venerable. Codex, from the Monastery of St. Nazarius of Lorsch, of the second half of the 11th century - Vatican Library, Cod. Pal. Lat. 1449, I. 30°.

ECCLESIASTICAL COMPUTATION. - È definito dagli scrittori: « notizia del corso della luna e delle calende, o scienza di determinare il tempo secondo il corso della luna e del sole ». It includes the notions needed to determine Easter, namely the cycles: the nineteen-year, lunar and solar cycles, the epacts, and the concurrents. From Charlemagne's time it was imposed as one of the subjects of instruction in the schools. St. Bede the Venerable devoted two books of his didactic works to it (De temporum ratione and De ratione comput. PL 90, 295-578, 579-600).
