Corelli, Maria

CORELLI, MARIA. - English writer, adoptive daughter of Ch. Mackay, b. at Bayswater in 1864, d. at Stratford-on-Avon in 1924.

She wrote many works, among them: A Romance of two worlds (1886); Barabbas (1893), a melodrama on the Passion of Christ; The mighty Atom (1896), in which she protests against the irreligious education of childhood; The master Christian (1900), an invective against the clergy and the Churches, especially the Roman and Anglican: the Church should reform its creed on scientific foundations and its ethics on social ones.
