COZZARELLI, GUIDOCCIO. - Sienese painter and miniaturist, documented from 1450 to 1516.
His first signed work is a panel with the Madonna in trono, St. Jerome and the blessed Giov. Colombini from 1482, in the picture gallery of Siena (no. 167); but among the paintings that best represent him are two panels in the church of the Observant Friars Minor of Sinalunga, one depicting a Madonna among angels with Sts. Simon and Todaro (documented to 1483) and the other the Baptism of Christ, signed and dated 1486. In these the C. reveals himself as a close follower of Matteo di Giovanni, with whom it is sometimes possible to confuse him: but his figures are more rigid, with angular draperies, heavy shadows and a far less vivid coloring.
