DAMIA (Δαμία). — A Greek goddess venerated together with Auxesia. They were worshipped at Aegina, at Troezen, where in their honor the festival of the Lithobolia was celebrated, and at Epidaurus, where the oracle of Delphi had ordered statues of them to be made of olive wood.
In Italy, DAMIA was worshipped at Agylla in Etruria (with gymnastic and equestrian games, ordered by the oracle of the olive), at Tarentum, and at Rome, where she was identified with Bona Dea and received a sacrifice (damium) offered by a special priestess (damiatrix).
