De Baets, Maurice

DE BAETS, MAURICE. - Theologian, b. in Ghent on 17 April 1863, d. there on 19 September 1931. Having earned his doctorate in theology at the Gregorian University, he taught dogmatics at the University of Louvain from 1896 to 1906. Having returned to Ghent, he held delicate offices there.

Of brilliant and original intellect, he adhered to the fundamental ideas of Thomism, which he developed in the works: Les bases de la morale et du droit (Louvain 1892); De ratione et natura peccati originalis (ibid. 1899); De Gratia Christi (ibid. 1901); Questiones de operationibus divinis quae respiciunt creaturas (ibid. 1903); De libera Christi obedientia (ibid. 1905); De Sacramentis in genere (ibid. 1907). He printed in Flemish many works of an apologetic nature.
