De Groot, Johann Vincent

DE GROOT, JOHANN VINCENT. - Dominican apologist, b. at Schiedam (Holland) on 4 July 1848, d. at Amsterdam on 26 Feb. 1922. For more than 25 years he held the chair of Thomistic philosophy, newly founded at that time, at the University of Amsterdam. He also distinguished himself as a lecturer and spiritual director. He wrote a great deal: very well known is the Summa apologetica de Ecclesia catholica ad mentem s. Thomae Aq. (Regensburg 1890).
